Soto Taluak Tampuruang Seberang Padang is a modest, no-frills soto spot tucked along Jl. Seberang Padang Selatan, serving up some of the heartier soup dishes Padang locals crave, especially during breakfast or lunchtime. This place is clearly built around its soto varieties, ranging from Soto Campur to Soto Padang with beef and paru (lung), alongside straightforward sides like telur asin and pergedel kentang.

The atmosphere here matches its simple presentation: the restaurant operates out of a small two-story house, creating a cozy but sometimes cramped setting. During peak hours, the building fills up quickly with locals and travelers alike, drawn by the flavorful soups, generous portions, and affordable prices. The dining setup leans towards functional rather than polished—think shallow plates instead of deep bowls for soup, which some might find a bit unusual.

One thing to note is that while the food tends to impress—especially the lightly spiced, rich broths and standout fried paru pieces—the service can come across as distant or rushed. Visitors should also be prepared for the occasional annoyance of mosquitoes, a common challenge in outdoor or semi-open eateries here. These minor discomforts don’t seem to overshadow the draw of having a fulfilling, affordable meal, especially if you’re seeking authentic Padang-style soto.

This spot works best for those who want a genuine local breakfast or lunch filled with traditional flavors without fuss. It's the kind of place where locals drop in after nearby work or travelers walking from nearby hotels might stop by for a spicy, warming bowl of soup. Though not geared toward leisurely dining, the two-level seating means finding a spot is usually possible even on a busy day.

  • Best for: Casual, hearty Padang-style soto meals, especially if you enjoy a bit of spice and variety in your soup.
  • Who will enjoy it: Fans of authentic Indonesian soups, visitors willing to skip fancy plating for taste, and locals looking for quick, satisfying eats.
  • Best time to visit: Breakfast and lunchtime are busiest, but coming early helps avoid crowds and the mosquito challenge.
  • Atmosphere: Unassuming, bustling, with a straightforward and utilitarian vibe; seating is limited but functional within a small two-story space.

Delicious and wholesome Soto for a mere 17k! While the dish have nothing to complain about, the staff do. They could definitely use some smile since they look at me as if I owe them money >< I wished they plate the soto in a bowl instead of a shallow plate; it felt weird eating a soup from a plate Tons of hungry mosquitoes that is trying to have a meal while I’m having mine. I ended up going home with 3 mosquito welt on my hand and arm Nevertheless the place is relatively clean with washbasin within an arms reach and location that is pretty easy to reach and find

Recommended by our local friend so we decided to give it a try for breakfast. Turned out it exceeded our expectation! I think their 'paru goreng' in their soto is one of the best I ever tasted. The portion is just right, the soup tasted light, a bit spicy for my taste bud, but very tasty! It can get quite packed during meal time but the store itself is 2 stories so you might still find place to sit. We paid 32k for 1 portion of 'soto campur (daging+paru)', 1 portion of 'soto daging', and 1 potato patties, which we considered very affordable for what we got.

A very very very good soto with affordable price. They are in a very small house, but definitely can serve your group. The soto is very generous with the fillings and meat.

Beautiful and cheap soto paru. Where u can choose on how to serve the soto. You can have the mix soto (rice and soup in one plate) or split (rice and soup in separate plate & bowl). The lung (paru) and meat are very chruncy. One of must try when you are in padang
